The Lived Experience of Nursing Officers Responding to COVID-19 at a Military Hospital Dedicated to Infectious Disease in Korea

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe ROK nursing officers¡¯ experience of responding to COVID-19 at a military hospital dedicated to infectious disease.
Methods: The data were obtained through focus group interviews with 32 nursing officers caring for patients with COVID-19 at a military hospitals and analyzed using qualitative content analysis.
Results: 49 themes and 13 theme clusters were extracted, and four categories were identified: ¡®Negative psychological experience in response to COVID-19¡¯, ¡®Expanded task responding to emerging infectious disease¡¯, ¡®Recognition of the need to improve the emerging infectious disease response system¡¯, and ¡®Experience for personal growth through responding to COVID-19¡¯.
Conclusion: The results of this study help understanding of nursing officer¡¯s experience of caring patients with COVID-19. It is needed to support nursing officers to work in safe environment and grow through nursing experience of patients with COVID-19.
